Unix is owned by The Open Group, and it was developed by AT&T - same company that developed C programming language in 1969, as an operating system for computers. Used as both for dedicated servers and desktops, Unix was one of the first client-server based concepts that in most part played a huge role in the development of computer networking and Internet foundation. As such, in the early 1980s, many educational facilities such as universities and colleges began adopting Unix for their systems. One such adaptation by Sun Microsystems was one of the causes contributing to boosting Unix’s popularity.
Today, Unix-like operating systems are used in 8 servers out of 10, according to a recent Netcraft survey. Linux is one such Unix-like OS; however, although Linux takes its roots in Unix, it is not officially a Unix operating system, as it does not comply with the Single UNIX Specification established by The Open Group and their partner agency, Austin Group. Despite that, ManageMyBox technicians understand the intricate inner workings of both Linux and UNIX, which makes our company qualified to be trusted with your Unix dedicated server needs.
