Plesk is a server control panel for administrators to easily set up web-sites in a user friendly interface. While not as comprehensive as cPanel feature-wise, Plesk can be run on both Linux and Windows. Some Linux-based OS that it can run on are CentOS, Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu, FreeBSd and Red Hat Linux Enterprise. Windows Server 2003 and 2008 also run Plesk on dedicated servers.
Besides normal server-related things, like PostgreSQL or MySQL databases, Plesk prides itself in one feature that cPanel and DirectAdmin don’t have: it can be used to manage or to install gaming servers. Battlefield 1942 and CounterStrike are 2 such games. To also aid web developers more, Plesk owners decided to allow it to manage Tomcat Java and ColdFusion servers, also. Plesk is owned and sold by Parallels, a software development company.
Plesk dedicated servers feature four access levels to the software. Administrator - allowed to manage all aspects of Plesk; Client or resellers - given domain creation privileges by the administrator; Domain owner - limited-access accounts with only enough privileges to manage a certain web site; Mail user - simply for e-mail access, as well as to maintain spam filters, mailing lists, etc.
