Debian operating system is a Linux based desktop and server system. Commonly referred to as Debian GNU/Linux, it is known for strictly following the Unix and Linux guidelines to be officially classified as a Unix OS. There are over 26,000 Debian software packages for 11 processor architectures, which makes it a versatile operating system to work with. Ubuntu, Knoppix, and LinEx are just some distributions based off of Debian.
Like other not-for-profit operating systems, Debian dedicated server distributions and desktop configurations are developed by volunteers with little financial support from outside foundations. Developed in 1993 by a Purdue University student Ian Murdock, he named it by putting his then-girlfriend (whom he later married, and then divorced) name Debbie’s name together with his. After three years of development and testing, Debian 1.x was finally released. Bruce Perens, a colleague, then replaced Murdock as the leader of the project. Leaving the project himself, Perens left Debian up for ownership by an elected board of programmers.
More packages and ports were designed for Debian 2.0 and on. The latest version of Debian released was Debian GNU/Linux 4.0, in 2007. There’s over a thousand developers working on this OS at the present time. ManageMyServices Group contributes to this operating system’s prosperity by actively participating in testing and maintaining it.
